From Jan. 12 to 22, New York State is hosting 1, 500 elite college athletes from 600 universities and 50 nations as they compete across 12 winter sports and 86 medal events. The majority of events are taking place at the newly-renovated Lake Placid Olympic facilities and other ORDA venues including Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Gore, and Whiteface Mountain. Nearby, the Saranac Lake Civic Center is holding 24 curling games while to the west, SUNY Canton, SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University are hosting 45 ice hockey face-offs. Lake Placid’s Main Street is closed off for the duration of the Games for the FISU Games Festival, which is hosting local vendors, interactive winter sports activities, and free concerts every night.
